Kona Koa was owned and operated by Robert "Bob" Kenneth Kalani Russell. Bob passed away on July 17, 2016.
While his company is no longer in operation, we have left this site up as a memorial to the man who created it.
Bob was born in Long Beach, California on January 18, 1959. He was a surfer, charter boat captain, fisherman, skilled chef, musician, developer, a phenomenally skilled woodworker
and a real estate agent for MacArthur Sotheby International Realty Company.
Bob was an avid Hawaiian Cultural Advocate who often created functional replicas of ancient Hawaiian surfboards and holua sleds. Some of his work can be seen in these pages.
Kona Koa supplied certain Hawaiian grown tropical hardwoods. They mainly supplied Koa, but can also supplied Monkeypod, Ulu (Breadfruit) and Mango.
In addition to his main business which was selling raw and milled, cured wood Bob also make handmade artisan products of Hawaiian Koa, Ulu, Mango and other exotic woods.
All replica products were made to original specifications from ancient artifacts found in Bishops Museum. While all of the replicas are beautiful to display,
they are also fully functional.
